Characteristics of titanium and titanium alloys in unmanned aerial vehicle and other flying objects

(1) The main use of titanium and titanium alloys is as structural materials. These include key components, such as the structural framework for unmanned aerial vehicle and Powered Parachute. The main reason for titanium alloy applications is to reduce weight and improve structural reliability, as titanium alloys usually have better mechanical properties than most steels, while they are low in density and light in weight. The Ti-6Al-4V alloy has a melting temperature of about 1600℃ and a normal use temperature limit of 230℃. It can also replace some lower temperature materials such as aluminum, which can be used in jungle fire monitoring or rescue unmanned aerial vehicle.

(2) Titanium and titanium alloys are also used as functional materials, for example, as a substrate for microscopy devices. This is because the titanium alloy has a suitable Young modulus and density (E /) combination, so they can maintain high frequency rotation; it is non-magnetic, which helps to avoid any interference with the permanent magnet of the mirror system.

(3) The Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used titanium alloy.Occasionally, other titanium materials, such as Ti-3Al-5Mo-4.5V and pure titanium materials, are also used.

(4) In the manufacturing of titanium alloy and titanium alloy parts mostly use the traditional processing methods such as forging, casting, rolling and machining.
