Titanium used in the glasses industry

Titanium and titanium alloy is a space material with silver white color, because of its light weight, good corrosion resistance, high toughness, high melting point, acid and alkali resistance, high stability, good affinity to the human body, colorful surface after anodizing,it has been applied in the frame industry from the early 1980s.  

Titanium has been used in glasses frame for more than 30 years In the early 1990s,titanium frames have been started to produce in a large scale in foreign countries and developed well.Before 1998, titanium frames accounted for more than 60% of the Japanese market. The first titanium frame in the world was sold by The Japanese Optical Industry Company in 1981 with the name of "TitexA "and" TitexB ", overcoming the difficulties in titanium processing. After using "TitexA ", the problems of drawing, mold damage during stamping and surface finish were solved to obtain the best processing surface cutting condition. In surface processing, focus on solving abrasive, polishing roller, processing machinery, processing conditions and so on.Brazing,the biggest obstacle ,has also made a breakthrough in the development of new titanium welding material. 

In the aspect of surface treatment, there are many difficulties in dealing with titanium materials by wet electroplating noble metals (zinc white copper, nickel alloy, stainless steel, etc.), so ion plating is used. Using different method can get different colors.Titanium frames are high-grade consumer goods. In recent years, with the improvement of people's living standard, the domestic demand for titanium frame expands rapidly, and there are many manufacturers of titanium frame. Pure titanium, Ti-Ni alloy and β titanium alloy are the popular materials used in manufacturing of glasses frame, its advantages are corrosion resistance, light weight, super elasticity, after long time using its color won’t change.  

It has been more than 30 years since titanium glasses were first released.At present, In the titanium glasses market, China occupies the largest share and is gradually becoming the  production base in the world. Japan's world market share still stays at about 10%.  However, Japan's titanium processing technology still maintains a high level.The improvement of quality and accuracy is inseparable from the skilled processing performance. In the future technology development, we need to pay attention to the balance between quality, cost and design.  Advanced technologies such as electron beam and laser are closely related to the improvement of product quality and processing performance.Meanwhile,we need to pay attention to the application of traditional technology, otherwise,it is difficult to keep the balance of all aspects of the product.
