Introduction to the titanium alloy materials incorporated into the biomedical material standard
May 12, 2022
In 1992, China issued the first national standard GB/T13810-1992 on Titanium and Titanium Alloy Processing Materials for Surgical Implants for the first time, which marked the beginning of China's professional production of titanium alloy raw materials for the application of medical devices. But 20 years later today, although the national standard has been revised twice, China can only produce pure titanium (Chinese brand TA1~TA4, the Corresponding American brand Gr1~ Gr4), Ti6Al4V (Chinese brand TC4, American corresponding Gr5 or Ti64), Ti6Al7Nb (China TC20) three categories of titanium alloy materials, there is not a β titanium alloy into the national standard,as shown in the following table:

Titanium alloy materials that have been included in international standards for biomedical materials.
Up to now, pure titanium and Ti6Al4V titanium alloy are still the largest and most widely used traditional main materials for surgical implants in the world, and their sales account for more than 80% of the global biomedical titanium alloy market. At present, titanium and titanium alloy processing materials for surgical implants produced in China involve plate (thickness 0.8~25mm), rod and wire (diameter 1~90mm), and the supply state can be cold rolled, hot processed and annealed.
