Application of laser cutting technology in titanium alloy forging
May 24, 2023
Titanium alloy has the advantages of low density, high strength, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, and has been widely used in the field of aerospace. Titanium alloy has been one of the "spine" of the aerospace industry. In recent years, titanium alloy has also begun to be applied in the fields of petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, biomedical and sporting goods. And has become a new process, new technology, new equipment indispensable metal materials, titanium industry into a new period of vigorous development. Titanium alloy parts of various structures and sizes have appeared, and various attempts to process titanium alloy parts have been gradually developed.
Generally speaking, laser cutting has the advantages of narrow slit, fast speed, small thermal deformation, high quality, material saving time, wide cutting range, good processing flexibility, easy to realize automation, no pollution to the environment. Therefore, the application range of laser cutting technology is also very wide, currently has been used in cutting steel plate, stainless steel, thickness of 1.5mm titanium plate and tantalum, niobium, nickel, copper, zinc, aluminum, quartz, ceramics, semiconductor materials, the application field covers food, medicine, electronics, textile, automotive industry and aerospace, etc. However, applications to thicker titanium alloy plates or forgings have not been reported.
In the forging industry, laser edging technology has been widely used in structural steel and stainless steel forgings, while laser cutting technology in titanium alloy forgings is still prohibited or restricted in China. However, with the rapid development of laser cutting equipment, the improvement of laser equipment power and the diversification of laser cutting atmosphere, to laser cutting titanium alloy forgings with high quality applications to provide basic support. Therefore, the application of laser cutting technology in titanium alloy forging is more meaningful.
